By Tommy Frazier, Creator of The Playback Project
I’m not a tech mogul. I’m not a label exec. I’m a musician — one of thousands who’ve poured everything into our craft, only to find that the systems built to support us no longer serve us.
For years, artists like me were told that radio was dying. That streaming is everything now. That we should be happy with pennies per play and hope the algorithm is in a good mood. But I don’t buy that.
I still believe in the power of radio.
I believe in its reach, its influence, its ability to connect.
And I believe it’s time for artists to take some of that power back.
The Playback Project is my answer to that belief — a platform built not for shareholders or corporate growth metrics, but for the artists who still believe their music deserves to be heard. Loud. And on legacy airwaves.
This isn’t pay-for-play. It’s pay-for-access. For curation. For opportunity.
It’s a new system designed with checks, balances, and — most importantly — heart.
We’ve built a structure that lets artists control their exclusivity, own their momentum, and even monetize their own buzz. We’ve created a way for radio stations to partner legally and cleanly with a platform that does the legwork, respects their autonomy, and helps breathe new life into their rotations.
At the end of the day, The Playback Project is about rebuilding the bridge between the people who make the music and the people who still want to hear it — outside the noise, the bots, and the insubstantial.
If you’re an artist, you’ve got something to say.
If you’re in radio, you’ve still got a voice that matters.
Let’s amplify both.
