The Playback Project

Radio isn't dead. It's just been waiting for us.

About The Playback Project

What is it?

The Playback Project is a next-generation music initiative built to bring new music discovery back to radio - on purpose, and with power. Designed for artists who want more than playlist placement and for radio stations hungry to stay relevant, TPP reconnects the thrill of the airwaves with the energy of emerging talent.

We're not here to replace streaming. We're here to give artists a place to start - to make that first impact feel like something again.

What does it do?

The Playback Project gives artists the chance to place their music on real radio stations across the country, in curated slots that generate excitement, build listener anticipation, and create moments that streaming just can't replicate.

For a set campaign fee, artists receive exclusive on-air rotation for a fixed period of time. No fake spins, no vague "exposure" - just targeted, data-backed radio placement that builds real-world hype.

Radio stations benefit too, receiving both revenue and curated content that can boost local engagement, attract fresh ears, and demonstrate their relevance in a crowded digital world.

How it Works

  1. Artists apply by submitting tracks that meet our quality, content, and reach standards.
  2. Once accepted, artists select a campaign tier based on desired airplay frequency and duration.
  3. TPP handles station placement through our partner network, matching songs to the best station fits.
  4. Radio stations broadcast the song on-air, while our backend systems track spin data and engagement signals.
  5. Artists receive spin reports and can leverage their radio presence to generate anticipation, fans, and momentum before going live on streaming.

Everything is designed to work seamlessly - with no gatekeeping, no empty promises, and no middlemen taking your rights.

This is the legendary radio debut, but in the hands of the artists.

Why Radio Still Matters

And Why It Deserves New Life

The storied history of radio is nothing short of iconic. As the first mass broadcast medium, it laid the groundwork for how television would later transmit picture and sound. There was an era when the local airwaves were the premier platform for music discovery. The rise of "Top 40" pop-culture in the 1950s gave young people a soundtrack - and an identity. From the 1980s through the early 2000s, radio served as the golden gate to the world of music videos, offering exposure and discovery on a whole new level. From the birth of television, to the rise of modern pop-culture as we know it, radio started it all.

Somewhere along the way, the world became obsessed with global connectivity, and the tech to make it happen. Almost overnight, we moved from physical formats to digital streams, trading tangibility for convenience. In that shift, music piracy found its footing through platforms like Napster and LimeWire, and a new era of consumption began. For many artists, it felt like a threat to both their work and their worth. In response, the industry sought to save what value it could. But by the time the dust settled, streaming had reshaped the landscape - and become the new norm.

Radio deserves to be that first-stop for music discovery again. Fans deserve to have that bastion of cultural significance back. And artists? They deserve a real chance at that milestone. In a world flooded with sound, radio still has power to make a song feel like an event. In a digital sea of endless content and disposable trends, there's something powerful about scarcity. When a song can't be found on streaming, when the only way to hear it is to catch it live on the radio - it creates anticipation. It turns casual listeners into seekers. That energy builds a kind of momentum that can't be manufactured through social media posts or algorithmic targeting. It's earned.

For the artist, that anticipation becomes a moment. It means their music isn't just being released - it's being introduced. And when fans start tuning in just to catch that one track, even briefly, it creates a ripple effect. People talk. People wait. And when the song finally drops elsewhere, it arrives with gravity. The Playback Project was built to bring that gravity back - to give artists a real launch, and to remind listeners that discovery can still feel like something truly special.

Submission Criteria

The Playback Project is designed to give artists a meaningful radio debut - not just another shout into the void. That means we don't take every submission. We're looking for music that's broadcast-ready, and artists who've already shown they're serious about building an audience. If you meet the following criteria, we'd love to hear what you've got.

Here's what we're looking for:

1. Professional Audio Quality

Your track must be mixed and mastered to industry standard.

  • WAV or 320Kbps MP3
  • Sample Rate of 44.1kHz minimum
  • No distortion, dead air, volume discrepancies, or audio artifacts

2. FCC Compliance

No hate speech, explicit content, slurs, sexual or drug references unless you're submitting a clean radio edit. If it wouldn't fly on FM radio, it won't fly here.

3. Minimum Audience Reach

We're here to boost momentum - not build it from scratch. To qualify, you must meet one of the following:

  • 6,500+ monthly listeners on Spotify
  • 150,000 total streams on a single track
  • 10,000+ followers on one of the socials*, and one post/video with 50k+ views

4. Exclusive Radio Window

We only accept tracks that haven't hit streaming yet. Submitting means you agree to hold your release until your campaign finishes - because exclusivity is what creates real anticipation.

5. Submission Materials

You'll need to provide:

  • Track Title & Artist Name
  • Genre
  • High-resolution artist photo
  • (Optional) Short bio or press link
